Caller reports road rage incident after getting flipped off

An officer is dispatched to meet up with a complainant at Centennial Park in the city who wants to report a road rage incident.

The complainant said it started at the Country Max on Veterans Memorial Drive. An operator of a black BMW is accused "driving past at a high rate of speed and giving the caller the bird," says the dispatcher.

The caller was, of course, referencing the crude hand gesture that is indicative of moderate to extreme contempt.

Pole and wires down in Village of Corfu after motor-vehicle accident

A pole and wires are down at 13 E. Main St. in the Village of Corfu, in front of Buttercrumbs Bakery. Corfu fire is on scene and mutual aid is requested from East Pembroke fire. Unknown injuries.

UPDATE 9:24 a.m.: The road is shut down by a deputy stationed at routes 33 and 77. Mercy medics are on scene. Command says wires are hanging about 6 feet over the roadway so the roadway is closed to traffic. The power company was contacted and has an ETA of an hour.

UPDATE 9:32 a.m.: The roadway is also closed at Snipery Road and Route 33.

UPDATE 9:35 a.m.: An RG&E rep is on scene now. Tractor-trailers are going to be detoured to Boyce Road, a north/south connector of routes 5 and 33, east of Route 77. Barricades are being put up.

UPDATE 11:10 a.m.: Command reports the barricades will remain in place and the roadway closed/detoured for at least a couple more hours.

UPDATE 12:02 p.m.: Command reports that it is National Grid on scene and they will continue to their work, but a lane will be opened for traffic to resume. The Corfu fire assignment is back in service.

Grass fire near a house on the reservation is out of control

A controlled burn of grass is now out of control and about 100 feet from a residence at 555 Council House Road on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation. The dispatcher notes that this is against the open burn ban. It is in effect until mid-May.

Alabama Fire Department is responding and a tanker is requested from Shelby. Command asks that a Department of Environmental Conservation agent be contacted about the grass fire and the closest one available is in Avon.

UPDATE 2:49 p.m.: Command reports fire is under control.

Dog locked in Dodge Caravan for over an hour at Walmart

An officer is dispatched to the Walmart parking lot for a report of a dog locked inside a Dodge Caravan for more than an hour.

The vehicle is parked in the last five rows "near the tree line."

It's 47 degrees outside.

Accident with injuries at East Main and Clinton

An accident with injuries is reported at East Main Street and Clinton Street in the city. Police and firefighters are en route along with Mercy medics. It is blocking the roadway.

UPDATE 4:33 p.m.: The exact address is 548 E. Main St. Two vehicles are involved.

UPDATE 4:42 p.m.: A black Buick SUV was parked on the south side of East Main Street and the driver pulled out to make a U-turn and did not see an oncoming black Pontiac sedan and the two vehicles clipped fenders -- driver's side front fender to passenger side front fender. Injuries are minor. Sgt. Mitch Cowen at the scene said he's not sure either driver will require transport to the hospital.

Head-on collision at Main and Bank in the city

A head-on collision between two vehicles is reported in Downtown Batavia at the intersection of Main and Banks streets. Unknown injuries. City fire and police are on scene.

UPDATE 2:27 a.m.: This was not a head-on collision; it was a T-bone. One vehicle struck the driver's side passenger door of another vehicle.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Engine #11 is back in service.

UPDATE 2:34 p.m.: No injuries. A white Ford Edge, which is a mid-size crossover SUV, was struck by a white four-door Subaru and the Subaru has heavy front-end damage.

UPDATE 2:42 p.m.: City police Sgt. Mitch Cowen said video of the collision captured by a camera the covers the intersection was provided to BPD by a citizen will be reviewed to determine what happened and whether any citations will be issued.

Caller reports big coyote walking behind NYS School for the Blind

A caller to dispatch reports a "50 to 60 pound coyote is walking behind the Blind School," on Richmond Avenue in the city. An officer is going to phone the caller for more details.

If so, that's hefty, by coyote standards. The average adult weight is 25-35 pounds, with some reaching 42 pounds. The largest on record in the United States is 75 pounds.

C02 detection with ill effects reported at residence in Byron

The presence of carbon dioxide with ill effects is reported in Byron at a ranch-style residence at the corner of Hassenthaler and Swamp roads. Byron Fire Department is on scene. The occupants have been evacuation and Mercy medics are responding in nonemergency mode.

UPDATE 2:15 p.m.: A faulty CO2 alarm was replaced. The assignment is back in service.

Tractor-trailer rear-ends big rig at Jackson and Ellicott streets in the city

A big rig just rear-ended another big rig at Jackson and Ellicott streets in the city and law enforcement is responding. One person is complaining of chest pain. Batavia fire Ladder #15 is on scene. Mercy medics are also responding.

UPDATE 2:16 p.m.: Fluids are leaking and Speedy Dry is called for; Engine #11 is en route with it.

UPDATE 2:46 p.m.: The city assignment is back in service.

Vehicle chase underway on Route 33

A pursuit of a vehicle by law enforcement is underway on westbound Route 33. Didn't hear where it began. They are putting spikes in the roadway and have asked city police to stand by at the city line in case the vehicle is not stopped.

UPDATE 3:52 p.m.: Two Sheriff's patrol cars have a black vehicle stopped on westbound Clinton Street Road, but it does not appear spikes were deployed. They are speaking with the male driver.

UPDATE 4:02 p.m.: This was an elderly couple who simply did not see a patrol car behind them attempting to stop their vehicle. They were not speeding; spikes were not deployed.

Empty car careens into house in Elba, no injuries

An unoccupied car "drove into a house" at 5069 Hundredmark Road in Elba. Elba Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. "Negative injuries at this time."

UPDATE 3:04 p.m.: The car reportedly "bumped into the house at a low rate of speed." A first responder on scene calls for another unit to respond with a lock-picking kit. "The keys are in the vehicle that's pressed against the house," he says. "No injuries."

UPDATE 3:43 p.m.: A deputy reports that code enforcement went to the house and evaluated the situation and determined there are no code issues regarding structural damage to the house. The Elba assignment is back in service.

Children playing on train tracks in Bergen prompts dispatch of deputies

Sheriff's deputies are responding to the railroad tracks behind Ralph & Rosie's Delicatessen at 19 N. Lake Road, Bergen, for a report of children playing on the tracks.

Of course, trains have been running there today.

UPDATE 2:13 p.m.: The deputy is clearing the scene and says CSX is in the area.

House fire reported in Village of Le Roy at 61 Mill St.

A house fire is reported in the Village of Le Roy at 61 Mill St.; the location is between Wright Avenue and Pleasant Street. Smoke and flames are showing. Le Roy, Bergen, and City of Batavia fire departments are responding.

UPDATE 7:53 p.m.: Fire is out. City fire is to return to quarters, per Le Roy command. Bergen is to stand by in Le Roy's fire headquarters. The roadway(s) in the vacinity of Mill Street to be shut down temporarily.

Pickup truck rollover accident reported in Stafford

A rollover accident involving a pickup truck is reported in Stafford at 6305 East Bethany - Le Roy Road. One occupant was entrapped and unresponsive; but has now been extricated. Other occupant(s) -- out and walking around.

Stafford Fire Department is called to the scene along with mutual aid from Corfu and ambulances from Mercy medics and Le Roy.

The location is between Transit and Roanoke roads.

UPDATE 11:09 p.m.: Bethany fire was also called to the scene. Bethany and Corfu are back in service. Mercy medics are en route in emergency mode to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with one patient and Le Roy is also headed there with one patient. Correction: Bethany and Corfu each had separate calls at the same time. 

Car vs. pedestrian accident reported on Harvester, minor injuries

A car vs. pedestrian accident is reported at 26 Harvester Ave. in the city. Possible minor injuries; the pedestrian is up and walking around. City fire is on scene with police and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 5:29 p.m.: The pedestrian was treated at the scene for a cut on the wrist. The assignment is back in service.

Accident at Main and Court in the city

A two-vehicle collision is reported at Main and Court streets. There are four patients -- all sign-offs. Court southbound is blocked by the accident. City fire, Mercy medics and police are on scene.

UPDATE 1:19 p.m.: Three people were signs-off; a fourth is being transported to UMMC with complaints of back, head and shoulder pain.
