The theme of one Christmas tree on display at the Holland Land Office Museum Wonderland of Trees is decorated with pictures of Jim Owen, who is frequently in local media pictures.

Above, he poses with an autographed picture he received today from the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The picture was taken while Cuomo was in town to announce Batavia's $10 million award in the Downtown Revitalization Initiative contest.

Owen was among the guests at HLOM last night for the annual Wonderland of Trees gala, which included a performance by a bell choir and an ugly Christmas sweater contest.

The winners of the contest below: Laura Banister, Kris Banister, Robin Ettinger and Ellen Bachorski.

The Holland Land Office Museum's ninth annual Wonderland of Trees opened Friday evening with a gala that included food (even a chocolate fountain), a silent auction, a chance to vote on your favorite tree and an opportunity to mingle with friends and neighbors.

About 40 local businesses and organizations participated in sponsoring trees this year, and the themes are quite creative.

The Christmas trees will be on display at HLOM through Jan. 8.

October 20, 2010 - 1:26pm

The Holland Land Office Museum is currently in the planning stages for this year’s fundraising event "2010 Wonderland of Trees." This is the nineth year of the event and the theme will be “Traditions.”

The museum is currently looking for schools, youth groups, service and business organizations, and groups of people to participate by decorating a Christmas tree or -- NEW this year -- a Christmas wreath (for those wishing to participate but wanting something smaller to handle).

With this year’s theme, there's a wide range of items that could be used to decorate your tree or wreath. Just FYI, you don’t have to follow the theme to participate. You could decorate your tree or wreath that represents your business or group. For example, if you own a bookstore, your ornaments could represent different book titles.

The possibilities are endless and think of all the creative fun you can have!

The Wonderland of Trees begins Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 with the gala, and runs through Saturday, Jan. 8.

Everyone is invited to participate this year. Let's make this the largest display of decorated Christmas trees or wreaths in WNY.

If you are interested or have questions, please contact Acting Director Jeff Donahue or Event Chairperson Shannon Guiste at the Holland Land Office Museum at 343-4727 between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, or on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Or you can contact in the Guiste in the evening at 343-2130.

Bring your friends, families or co-workers out tomorrow to the Holland Land Office Museum starting at 9:00 a.m. for a snowman building contest.

Between now and tomorrow morning we are expected to get about five inches of snow and a temperature in the mid-20’s. It will be perfect snowman building weather!

The team that builds the best snowman will win a gift certificate from Matty’s Pizza, plus we are still pulling together a few more items.

If you get too cold building your snowman, come on in to the Museum for free coffee and hot chocolate and see the Wonderland of Trees!

The event runs until noon. This is this first time we are trying this event and I hope everyone comes out and has a great time! It would be a good idea to bring a shovel and a bucket to help you build your masterpiece.

The event is sponsored by our good friends at Five-Star Bank, thebatavian.com and Matty’s Pizza.

December 12, 2008 - 2:28pm

The Holland Land Office Museum is proud to announce it’s first ever snowman building contest. The event, sponsored by thebatavian.com, will take place on the east lawn of the Museum on Wednesday, December 31st from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

If there isn’t any snow outside, we’ll build them inside!

Prizes will be awarded. And, we are planning to have a celebrity judge. We can't announce the name yet, because this person isn't confirmed.

Check out www.wonderlandoftrees.com or call the Museum at 343-4727 for more information.
