The entire community is invited to join the family and friends of Buddy Oderkirk to help save lives by donating blood through the American Red Cross on August 19, 2021, from 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. at The American Legion 53 West Main Street Le Roy, NY 14482 in his memory.
A 2014 graduate of Pavilion High School where he graduated 4th from his class, Buddy was a member of National Honor Society. He loved traveling and following his high school graduation he took an eleven day European vacation where he fell in love with the country of Switzerland. An accomplished wrestler throughout high school, Buddy began wrestling at the age of 6. He served as a mentor to many younger wrestlers and volunteered much of his time to ensure their success. He was a student at Genesee Community College with the aspirations to transfer to Monroe Community College to pursue a career as a dental hygienist. A member of Genesee County 4-H and the NIOGA Holstein Club. He enjoyed trading sports cards, playing fantasy football, and loved listening to music.
Through out all of his treatment he never once complained and was always the epitome of grace, hope and most of all kindness.
To know Buddy was to understand what it meant to be the bigger person and to always remain true to
who you are regardless of the circumstances. Buddy was diagnosed with 4th stage Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in May 2015 just before his 18th birthday he was determined to beat it and went into a 54 week treatment plan with a tenacity that left many in admiration. Buddy, unfortunately, lost his battle on November 15, 2016. As his Mom I am so proud of the young man he was and I always say the he made me a better person. This blood drive is to honor the strength and memory of a truly amazing young man who touched so many lives in his short lifetime.

Northgate Free Methodist Church will once again be hosting our annual VBS (Vacation Bible School) Base Camp between Aug.16th–20th with some exciting changes this year!
As we are growing rapidly our younger campers (ages 3–7) will enjoy a half day program at our North Campus (8160 Bank Street Road) from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. while our older campers (ages 8-12) will participate from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at our South Campus (350 Bank St.)
This year’s theme is Space with OUT OF THIS WORLD activities, games, devotionals and special guests like Art of Mandy and the Seneca Zoo Mobile.
The older campers will also have the opportunity to engage in skill building and instructional exercises for their preferred sport to stay sharp over summer!

This weekend the Alexander Fire Department E.S.P. Tractor Pull returns!
It will be held Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Hall grounds, 10708 Alexander Road, Alexander.
Cost: Adults: $16; children 6-12: $8; 5 years and under free.
Classes include: Super Farm, Light Super Farm, Limited Pro Stock Diesel Truck, Heavy Super Stock and Modified Tractors.
Friday at 5 p.m. will include a take-out only Chicken BBQ by the Ladies Auxiliary. Saturday will feature our popular local band "Red Creek" from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the beer tent.
Food tent will be open! Hamburgers, hot dogs, Italian sausage, pizza, nachos, hot pretzels, fried dough, french fries and plenty of cold beverages served both nights.

Richmond Memorial Library invites patrons of all ages to take part in Summer Reading! This year’s theme is animals, with the slogan of “Tails and Tales.” Beginning June 25, children and adults can take part in reading challenges for a chance to win prizes.
The Children's Room at the Richmond Memorial Library is excited to continue its annual Summer Reading Program this summer from June 25 to Aug. 14.
New this year will be reading tracking using Beanstack. As a computer website or a mobile app, Beanstack will help readers track their minutes read, remind them of milestone prize pickups, and engage readers with fun activities to earn an additional end prize.
Children’s Room staff will gladly help families register on Beanstack when the program is available starting June 24. Watch the Children’s Room page on the website for updates.
Summer reading for adults? Yes, please! Summer Reading BINGO will begin on Friday, June 25 and go through Aug. 21. Complete challenges like reading outside, listening to an audiobook and watching a documentary for a chance to win weekly and grand prizes.
Grand Prizes include a Book Lovers’ Basket, an 8gb Kindle Paperwhite and a piece of book art by a local artist! Weekly prizes will include gift cards and goodies from local establishments.

Blue Pearl Yoga presents the Padmanabha/Strongmen Duo performing selections from "American Raga," a combination of music from North America and India, on Friday, June 18 at their East Main Street studio.
Ravi Padmanabha is a percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. Mike Strongmen plays banjo, slide dobro, and the saw.
"American Raga" is the first release by the musical duo.
A reception where guests can meet the artists will immediately follow across the street at GO ART!’s Tavern 2.o.1.
Padmanabha’s initial interest in drum set led to a variety of musical instruments and at 18, began his formal studies in tabla -- a pair of small hand drums attached together, used in Indian music; one slightly larger than the other and played using pressure from the heel of the hand to vary the pitch.
Strongmen is from Nebraska and performs extensively throughout North America.
Together they have found a common ground for a cross-culture collaboration.
Well-versed in a wide variety of musical styles, including jazz, world, and experimental music, Padmanabha has performed at Buffalo's Drum Day and Maelstrom Percussion Ensembles Master Drummers Program. Along with fellow Buffalo musicians, he performed in the William Parker Buffalo Orchestra, which inaugurated the new Righteous Babe Records/Hallwalls performance space.
Padmanabha is also a member of Family FUNKtion and the Sitar Jams, which he formed with his two brothers. They have released two CDs and continue to perform.
Strongman is also active in the Buffalo music scene.

Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in Upstate New York, Vermont, and Northern Pennsylvania, announced today that it has awarded $267,350 dollars to 238 Tops first-year and matriculated college associates, associate dependents, and associate grandchildren for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Madison Zimmerman, from Corfu, and Shirley Logan, from Le Roy, were both awarded scholarships for $1,150 each.*
All Tops associates, union and nonunion, their dependents and grandchildren are eligible to apply for scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 annually over the course of four academic years.
Through partnership with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local One, Tops Markets makes an annual contribution to the UFCW health care fund. The funds are then disbursed by the Union to Tops Markets part-time and full-time union associates. Part time and full time associates who are not UFCW Local One members, their dependents and their grandchildren are eligible to apply for scholarships through the Tops Scholarship Program.
Applicants to both the UFCW health care fund and the Tops Scholarship Program must meet certain scholastic and work performance criteria in order to be considered eligible for an award.
*Yesterday, it was announced that Mary Caprio, of Oakfield, and Margaret Demare, of Batavia, were both awarded scholarships for $1,150 each.

St. Paul Lutheran School in Batavia will be holding an Amazing Race type of fundraiser called the "Amazing Grace Race" at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 5.
For $20 per vehicle you can travel to five different locations to complete a family friendly task.
The top finishers will be recognized at the finish line and can try and win a prize.
All vehicles registered for the race will meet at St. Paul School, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia to get their race directions and first location to begin the race promptly at 10 a.m.
Once all vehicles have finished the race and the tasks we will meet back at St. Paul School.
